Illustrations and product design for the 4K UHD Blu-ray release of Mac and Me from Vinegar Syndrome officially licensed from MGM.
When the job came in I already knew I wanted to do some Olan Mills-inspired family studio glam portraits to go with the release, but could not imagine that I would be allowed to use one for the hero cover on the outer collectible box.
I did a more traditional poster-style image for the regular cover and we got to use the full family portrait for the back of the Blu-ray.
Since the movie was so heavy-handed with its product placement and sponsorship (I heard Coca-Cola and McDonald’s were even investors in the movie production!), I dreamed up fake Mac and Me ephemera for the inner box lining that I thought could have been actual merch back in ‘88. Mainly school supplies and doodle-scrawled notebooks that a kid like Eric would have.
